Riding on the popular Bluffs/Sunningdale trail in Trail has made for some great early season training, but if you want to mix it up try the Columbia Trail - an underused trail that is technical, flowy and away from the crowds. I rode half of it out and back from the north end earlier this week and plan to pedal the 25-k ride to Castlegar this weekend.
The Columbia Trail starts at the bottom of the Sunningdale Trail. You can part at the top of the hill past the gate and from there pedal 3 k of dirt road following the intermittent arrows to the trail proper. From there, enjoy the winding ride along the Columbia River, across creeks and occasional benches for 18k one way.
