We finally managed to ride the Columbia Trail from Trail to Ootischenia near Castlegar and enjoyed some fine singletrack and meandering truck and quad roads. The Columbia Trial is certainly deserving of early season pedalling, with the mighty Columbia rolling nearby and fine, flowing trail. After some early season reconnaissance, we figure the best way to enjoy this trail, until some work is completed, is to ride it from the south end out and back. Here are the details:
- Park at the bottom of the Sunningdale Trail and pedal 3.5 k of double track/Mud Bog trail (hopefully a potential trail project) to the trailhead.
- Ride flowy trial for ~8k till you hit double track.
- turn around and ride back for a ~2 hr ride, or continue north past historic Doukhobour cemeteries and homestead land.
- If riding to Ootischenia park a truck at the north end for the retrieve.
